When contacting us for Accident Management Assistance services:

In addition to the contact information, driving qualification, transactional and health information listed above, when you contact us for accident management assistance purposes (which we may administer on behalf of the entity that refers your details to us, be it your insurer, manufacturer, employer, dealership, fleet management provider or breakdown provider), we will also collect:

Claims information, including:

Information related to details of accidents, including that of any third parties such as involved individuals, witnesses and police reports

Insurance details

Information about the incident to determine who is at fault

Vehicle details

Details regarding your vehicle repair needs and your onward mobility needs

Our Vehicles

Vehicle Tracking and Telematics

At Dest Rentals, each of our vehicles is equipped with tracking devices and telematics systems. These are utilized for various purposes to enhance safety, efficiency, and the overall rental experience. Here’s how we use this technology:

Location Information: We actively collect and utilize vehicle location data to provide timely roadside assistance, ensuring quick response times in emergencies. This data also aids us in vehicle recovery if a vehicle is reported lost, stolen, or not returned as agreed. Moreover, it streamlines the vehicle return process, allowing for more accurate and efficient billing.

Vehicle Diagnostics: Our telematics systems monitor vehicle health, allowing us to maintain high standards of safety and reliability. This includes monitoring fuel levels, battery health, and more, ensuring that vehicles are in optimal condition.

Event Data Recorders: In the event of an accident or incident, telematics data can be crucial for investigations and insurance claims. It helps us understand the circumstances surrounding such events, contributing to fair resolutions.

Manufacturer-Installed Telematics

Many of our vehicles come with manufacturer-installed telematics systems, such as Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and similar services. Dest Rentals is not directly involved with these systems and does not have access to the data they collect, unless shared by the vehicle manufacturer under specific conditions. Our interaction with these systems is limited to ensuring compatibility with our services where necessary.

Privacy with Manufacturer Apps: If you, as a renter, decide to pair your mobile device with the vehicle’s systems or use any third-party software or services in the vehicle, you may be sharing your personal data directly with those platforms. Dest Rentals does not control these third-party data practices. We advise renters to review privacy settings and terms of use for any third-party apps or services they choose to use and to clear their personal information from the vehicle systems before returning the vehicle.

Legally Compelled Disclosure: Dest Rentals may share telematics data with law enforcement or other governmental authorities if legally required, or in emergency situations where such disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of individuals.

Data Retention and Privacy

We retain vehicle-related data in line with our internal policies, which are designed to comply with legal requirements and support our business operations effectively. Our commitment to privacy means we handle this data with care, ensuring it’s used responsibly and only for the purposes outlined.

Using Infotainment Systems Safely

We encourage our customers to use the vehicle’s infotainment systems responsibly. Before the vehicle is returned, we strongly recommend removing any personal information from these systems. This includes disconnecting mobile apps, deleting navigation history, and logging out of any services to prevent subsequent users from accessing your personal data.

 

Your Rights

The data protection laws of the United States provide the following rights to covered individuals:

Opt-out of some collection or uses of your personal information, including the use of cookies and similar technologies and the use of your personal information for marketing purposes, and the anonymization of your personal information for data analyses;

Access your personal information, rectify it, restrict or object to its processing, or subject to exemptions under law, request its deletion;
